Zimmer INC

The Challenge

Data and Its Sources

The Optiform team had the pleasure of partnering with the notable Zimmer INC the world’s largest orthopedic device manufacturer. In addition to their production, Zimmer also pairs with prestigious universities in conducting 50 to 75 active clinical studies each year. Work of this magnitude leads and the outpouring of data that can quickly become convoluted and interrupt the integrity of the study. Zimmer requested Optiform help them find a solution to process their 1000+ case report forms (CRFs) and collect data from multiple surgeons.

Eliminating Paper

Seeking out a way to reduce paper and effort meant replacing scanned and faxed clinical outcome forms and minimizing data discrepancies via real- time validations. Due to the sheer number of data sources, Zimmer needed to allow clinical research staff to design their own forms, export data, images, and have an audit trail to existing apps. Furthermore, the process would need to meet 21 CFR Part 11 compliance regulations.

After a series of investigations into the needs to the client, the Optifrom team was able to recommend and implement Cardiff LiquidOffice through the existing web portal, which allows forms to be filled while offline.

Our Solution. Their Results.

Return on Investment

The successful setup and test of 20 eForms on the private web portal took less than 3 months. The client was both stunned and thrilled with the results. Their audit process was now in one system instead of several and data became readily available in an hour verses the previous two week wait. The number of in house data entries was reduced by 60% for the first year, eliminating human error and decreasing data discrepancies by 60%. Zimmer’s investment in Optiform lead to a first year saving of $560,000.
